I vividly remember the days when my kids would get so excited at what us grown ups have become so accustomed to - birds, planes, flowers, bugs, rocks, etc. It made me smile big time when I gave my kids these sheets of paper and we went on a walk around our neighborhood. They once again became so excited with what the ordinary things they saw. (The white car is the best thing ever here).
Why You Should Get Outside
And getting outside is SO important for kids and adults alike. It helps our mood, helps us sleep better, reduces stress, strengthens immunity, and even improves vision. Yes, there is a study that showed children who spent more time playing outside significantly reduced their risk of becoming nearsighted! Here's an article that discusses all of the benefits of the outdoors.
Outdoor Scavenger Hunts
Scavenger hunts are so appealing to young kids because it creates a game. Anything is more fun if you make a game out of it! These are even better because it gets kids outside!
Print it, put it on a clipboard if you'd like, and watch your kids transform into little explorers! It's such a fun way to observe the world around you.
They can check off items as they see them. And no, you don't have to find them ALL. See how many you can find in your outing and then you can try to beat that number the next time! If you want to be a little extra, bring a container where they can collect things along the way.
