Trapped. That's what it feels like when you're inside that tiny room waiting and waiting and waiting for the doctor to come in.
Sometimes you have a mellow, sick kid who just wants to cuddle.
But other times, (like yearly check-ups) you have an energetic child who wants to get in to everything and is so very impatient.
With two kids, I have probably spent hours over the years stuck in the room. Since we chose to keep outings screen-free, I have lots of ways you can keep little ones busy so the doctor comes in before you know it!
Name Sticker
Write your child's name with a crayon on the thin paper that goes where the patient sits. Give them a sheet of circular stickers and have them place stickers along the line to spell their name.
Road Map
With crayon, draw a road on the thin paper and bring some small cars for kids to drive along your roads.
Sticker Sort
Draw two large circles on the thin paper and give your child a sheet of stickers. Have them sort the stickers based on what type of stickers are available! Here are some ideas:
- size - large or small
- color
- alive or non-living
- found inside or outside
- land animal or ocean animal
Quiet Book
A quiet book has several hands-on, engaging activities in one place. Keep one in the car so you always have it available for appointments. If you're interested in making one, my Calendar Quiet Book Page Kit Subscription makes it so easy! Everything comes cut for you and ready to sew. Or I have patterns to DIY the whole thing yourself (the Nutcracker Quiet Book is shown here). This was definitely a favorite activity of my kids.
Doctor's Office Scavenger Hunt
Make it a game! Use my printable scavenger hunt activity to see what you can find while you're waiting.
Look and Find Book
These types of books always help time pass. No reading is required and there is a lot to look at!
